Honoring the Tri Hita Karana principle

Right now, many people fear overdevelopment will ultimately destroy Bali’s culture and landscape.

As a Balinese family deeply rooted in Nyanyi, we as Nyanyi Bali Development stand out as a local developer with a deep understanding of the Balinese Tri Hita Karana principle.

With over 30 years of expertise in the business, we are currently developing N Residence Bali. This is a housing complex specially designed for long-term foreign residents seeking a sanctuary in Bali.

The Tri Hita Karana principle emphasizes harmony between one’s relationship with God, the environment, and other humans. This is a foundational belief deeply ingrained among the Balinese from a young age.

As Balinese ourselves, we view these principles as non-negotiable. Therefore, we dedicate ourselves to applying these principles to our projects.

Promoting a harmonious relationship with nature

Unlike many developers, we understand the importance of preserving open spaces and lush greenery within the housing complex. This is important to ensure that the development remains in harmony with the natural surroundings.

Our significant advantage as a local developer lies in our profound connection to the unique Beraban landscape and community. From the get-go, we have always conducted an open dialogue with local villagers to discuss how our projects could adjust to the area’s spatial planning.

This is how we ensure that our development practices honor the heritage and environment of Beraban village.

“[The late/Nyanyi Bali Development founder] Frans Siswanto always invited us to discuss various aspects of his development projects because he was really concerned about the possible impacts that those projects could have on the surrounding environment and communities,” said Made Sumaya, who served as the Beraban village head for over 20 years and has been actively involved in LTP’s project dialogues.

Taking local spatial planning and sacred sites into account

Among the issues we discussed with locals was the importance of making sure that the new buildings should not overlap with public facilities in the villages, such as shortcut roads around the river. We also understand that it is absolutely compulsory for them to conduct an Environmental Impact Analysis (locally known as Amdal) before they start carrying out their development projects.

“Once the villagers and the developer see eye to eye on how to best execute the project based on the village’s existing spatial planning, then we will facilitate another meeting with village figures to discuss the project’s impacts on sacred sites in this area,” Made said. We do this to make sure that the project does not destroy or demolish any sacred plants or buildings during the development process.

By respecting and safeguarding its local environment and the sacred sites in the area, through a participative development process involving local villagers, we seek to not only honor the cultural heritage but also contribute to the overall well-being of the community and environment.
